Ripples in the Pond 6.10.26

First entry!

First, allow me to explain the title of the blog – Ripples in the Pond. Ripples in the Pond is the name of the antiques shop that the main characters converge on in my first work The Hourglass. This is where their task is revealed and much comes to light, although much is still left in darkness. I really loved this name of the antiques shop, thought it was very fitting, for that is where the forward action, the ripples, moves from that point.

I am very nervous to begin! Putting yourself out there is difficult, but I love writing, and I wish to connect with people and touch hearts, so I am going to try my best!

So – The Hourglass! My first published work. The release on September 8, 2026 is for the Revised Second Edition, which is much different from the first edition – skeleton of the story and the characters the same, but greatly enhanced – hopefully for the better! I wish to do the characters and the story justice in how I portrayed them to the world. Here’s hoping that people give them a chance!

On the cover you see the guardian of the Hourglass. The artwork, done by verdant so long ago (2009!), is dear to my heart. When I saw how the character and the scene came out, I was blown away. So beautiful, so breathtaking, so mysterious. I felt it was a sign that The Hourglass was a worthwhile project.

“In Christina’s YA novel, a mournful teen sets out on a magical journey to rediscover the past she only vaguely remembers in snatches of troubling dreams.
“On the Atlantic coast, tucked away on the east end of Long Island, New York, there was a little antiques shop.” This is the first stop on young amnesiac Kai’s remarkable dream-directed journey into the ethereal realm of Altier as she searches for answers about her past. In Altier, an eclectic band of fellow travelers immediately coalesces around Kai, including Siru (a thief), Melas (his pal), Adima (a noblewoman), Keiro (a warrior), and Noma (an agent from the benevolent HERO organization), all of whom suggest classic roleplaying archetypes. Together, they learn of the mysterious Hourglass and the grasping king bent on seizing its power for his own ends—never mind the fact that the Hourglass “leads those who strive to possess it into the arms of ruin or death instead, all the while protecting its existence.” Along the way, Kai and her new friends discover more about the nature of the ever-enigmatic Hourglass, as well as the secretive identity of its guardian and the reasons behind dispatching each of them on the lofty quest in the first place. The novel’s world is beautifully crafted and vivid” – Kirkus Reviews
